Jodhpur : In Suryanagari, in the pale moonlight of Sharad Purnima, the magic of vocal waves of folk artists from India and abroad will be spread. In fact, the 17th edition of the five-day Jodhpur Riff will begin from Wednesday at Mehrangarh Fort. In the riff organized by Mehrangarh Museum Trust from 16th to 20th October, domestic and foreign tourists and city residents will get to see the melodious musical tunes as well as the decorations of Mehrangarh drenched in the moonlight of Sharad Purnima.

International artists will be seen performing Jugalbandi in different musical styles along with Rajasthani folk music artists. Former MP Gaj Singh, chief patron of Jodhpur Riff, said that Rajasthani folk artists are at par with the best musicians of the world. For over a decade and a half, Riff has played a role in inspiring, reviving and contemporizing the music and performances of artists from around the world as well as presenting the art of folk artists of Rajasthan.

More than 280 artists will perform

Festival director Divya Bhatia said that this time more than 280 artists will perform. Foreign artists at the festival include French artist Eric Mouquet, Manganiyar from Marwar, Kutiyattam player Kapila Venu from Kerala, singer Gabba from Norway, lyricist Sona Mohapatra, Puulup from Estonia, Anuja Jokarkar, Mehredin Khan Langa, singers Barnali Chattopadhyay, Sumitra Das Goswami, Hyderabad. Artists like K Warsi Brothers and Kaluram Bamania will perform.

There will also be three theater presentations

This time there will also be three theater presentations, in which Kutiyattam in Kathak exponent by Tarini Tripathi, Pavakathkali in Jaipur Tamasha by Dilip Bhatt and Lavani style presentation by Aditi Bhavat. Similarly, Mauritius’s Emlyn Marimutu will perform with his multi-instrument along with the Malagasy and Indian artists of Africa. AKMA Special Mention artists including American and Zimbabwean Lewis Hlanga, South Korea’s Gray By Silver, Aga Khan on Sindhi Sarangi, Asin Khan Langa and Dilshad Khan will perform indigenous folk songs, modern jazz and new age instruments.
