Jaipur : The issue of toll plazas is hot in Rajasthan these days. Many toll plazas in the state have been built with wrong standards, due to which money is being deducted from the pockets of common people. But no one is paying attention to this. It is being told that there are many such toll plazas in Rajasthan in which the distance between two tolls is less than 60 kilometers. Rajasthan comes first in terms of the number of toll plazas. While if we talk about toll collection, Rajasthan ranks first.
Rajasthan ranks third in the length of NH
Rajasthan is the largest state in terms of area, while it is third in terms of the length of National Highway (NH). After Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, it has the longest length of National Highway. But in terms of the number of toll plazas, Rajasthan is number one. According to the data available on the official website of NHAI, Rajasthan has 138 toll booths, while Maharashtra has 84 and Uttar Pradesh has 120 toll booths.
Three toll plazas on 130 km between Jaipur-Ajmer
The distance from Jaipur to Ajmer is 130 km but there are 3 toll plazas in between. There are many toll plazas whose distance is 30 to 40 km. According to the rules of NHAI, the distance between one toll plaza and another will be 60 km. But these rules have been clearly ignored in Rajasthan.
Violation of rules for making toll plaza
The report of the Standing Committee tabled in the Rajya Sabha on 8 February 2024 also points towards the ignorance of distance rules in the construction of toll plazas in the country. In the report titled “Operation and Maintenance of National Highways and Maintenance of Toll Plazas”, there has been more violation of the rule of keeping a distance of 60 kilometers in the construction of toll plazas than following it.
