Transport department is strict to control road accidents, awareness campaigns are being run

Haridwar, 16 November (IANS). The Transport Department is strict to control the increasing road accidents at different places in Uttarakhand. Continuous campaigns are being run against those who violate traffic rules and action is also being taken against them.

In view of the frequent road accidents in Haridwar, the Transport Department has adopted a strict stance. A continuous campaign is being run against those who violate the rules. Regional Transport Officer Rashmi Pant, while talking to the media, said that the department has formed special teams to strengthen road safety. These teams are continuously running campaigns in the area and taking action against the rule breakers.

Rashmi Pant said on the tragic accident in Dehradun that this is a lesson for us. Despite having safe vehicles and good roads, we can become victims of accidents. Campaigns are being run in Haridwar against over speeding, overloading and unfit vehicles.

Two days ago, our six teams conducted a campaign and issued challans for 295 vehicles and 17 vehicles were seized. This campaign of ours is going on continuously. We are trying to control vehicles without fitness and over speeding. Action is also being taken against vehicles parked in no parking areas.

We continuously appeal to schools regarding road safety and also organize programs in schools. In the meeting of our Road Safety Committee on Friday, it was decided by the District Magistrate that programs related to road safety will be organized by sending a district level officer to each of the 60 most remote schools situated along the highway in the district. Apart from this, we keep organizing this program in schools continuously.

Apart from this, he also appealed to the parents of the children to make their children aware about the road safety rules and motivate them to follow them from time to time.

Let us tell you that 6 people had died in a horrific road accident in Dehradun late last Monday night. Those who died included three boys and girls. All those who died were students. Police had said that the Innova car was shattered into pieces after hitting the container and then the tree.
