New York, November 16 (IANS). US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Steven Cheung, his media advisor and chief spokesperson, as White House communications chief.
Trump announced Friday that Cheung “will return to the White House as Assistant to the President and Director of Communications.”
He served as Special Assistant to the President and Strategic Response in Charge during Trump’s first term. His job at that time was to deal with the upcoming challenges and plan responses to the upcoming issues.
Cheung played an important role in Trump’s election campaign. His sharp statements were much discussed.
At that time he addressed the media directly instead of Trump. This was done during his trial in a Manhattan court case for paying money to keep quiet.
According to media reports, he was among the managers of the Trump campaign. These include Susan Wills (now appointed as Trump’s Chief of Staff) and Chris LaCivita.
He has worked for various election campaigns of Republicans. Cheung has also been the communications director for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Cheung joined Trump’s campaign for the Republican nomination in 2016 as rapid response director. After this, he remained associated with Trump’s presidential campaign and then went to the White House. Remained on the same post till 2017.
He left the White House in 2018 and started his own company.
After various other assignments, he returned to the Trump 2024 campaign.
He spent a lot of time on Trump’s campaign, trying to douse the fire created by his aggressive statements, such as calling his opponents “vermin” or accusing illegal immigrants of “poisoning the blood of the nation.”
