Udaipur : Udaipur Almost one and a half month has passed since the monsoon departed. Our lakes are full. Meanwhile, slight overflow is still going on in many areas amidst gusts of wind. Udaysagar became filled with its total filling capacity of 24 feet, about two and a half months ago on 3rd September, but due to leakage of water from the padavs (tunnels) in the hills of the catchment, its water is overflowing. Monsoon bid farewell to Udaipur on 2nd October. Since then, Fatehsagar, one of the major lakes of the city, has become empty by 6 inches as against 13 feet. It has 12.6 feet of water. Similarly, in Pichola, as against 11 feet, the water level has decreased by only one inch and the water level has become 10.11 feet. This year the water level of both is higher than last year. At the same time last year, Fatehsagar was 2 feet empty at 11 feet and Swarupsagar was 0.7 inches empty at 10.5 feet. However, Udaysagar was full only at 24 feet.
Presently, the thirst of 1.25 lakh people is quenched every day from Fatehsagar and Swarupsagar. 15 MLD water is being taken from Fatehsagar and 28.5 MLD water is being taken from Swarupsagar. Due to this their water level has decreased. Whereas the water of Udaysagar is only used for irrigation. The gates of Udaysagar have not been opened for irrigation yet. Apart from this, the dams that fill them, Akoda, Dewas and Madri are also full.
The reason is this…it filled in the last phase of monsoon, after departure 4 inches of rain
This year, all the lakes of the city were full in the last month of monsoon i.e. September, whereas in 2023 they became full only in June-July.
A major reason why the water level of the lakes has not fallen yet is that after the monsoon this year, there was 4 inches of rain in a single day on October 13. Due to this, the inflow into water sources increased again.
Last year in 2023, there was no rain in Udaipur for two months after the departure of monsoon. Last year also the monsoon had departed on October 2. After this, about one inch of rain occurred on 26 and 27 November.
These benefits…remove worries about drinking water and tourism
Tourist season is going on. People from all over the country and abroad come to Udaipur to see the lakes. If the lakes remain full then they will attract tourists. There will be no shortage of drinking water. Even if the winter is good and there is one or two good rains from November to February, the water level of the lakes will remain good. This will not cause much problem even in summer.
80.6 mm more water fell than average
This year, 13 percent more water fell in the district than the average. The average rainfall figure during the monsoon season in the district is fixed at 617.7 mm, that is, this much rainfall should occur. In comparison, it rained 698.3 mm i.e. 80.6 mm more water. This is the second consecutive year when the monsoon was slightly more generous than normal. Last year also there was only 12.6 percent more rainfall than the average i.e. about 695.6 mm.
