Udaipur : Electricity consumers of Udaipur state are going to get some relief in their electricity bills next month. Due to reduction in the rate based on the calculation of fuel surcharge for the first quarter of the year, there will be a reduction of 5 paise in the base fuel surcharge being added to the bills every month. On an average, if a family consumes 300 units of electricity, then there will be a relief of about Rs 50 in the next bill. Fuel surcharge is calculated every quarter by the electricity corporations of the state. The amount of expenditure is added to the electricity bills of the coming quarter at the rate of per unit. In the recent orders issued by Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer Discoms, figures for the first two quarters of this year (January to March and April to June) have been released. The fuel surcharge for the first quarter was considered to be 49 paise per unit and for the second quarter it was considered to be 54 paise per unit. Currently, fuel surcharge is being added to electricity bills on the basis of 54 paise per unit. Hence, the estimates for the second quarter remained the same, but a decrease of 5 paise per unit was recorded in the first quarter. Consumers will have to pay the benefit of this in next month’s bills.
Relief will be available in the coming months also: According to the data of power companies, the fuel surcharge for the third quarter of 2024 will be further underestimated. In such a situation, electricity consumers can get big relief after June next year.
There is a large consumption of coal in power generating units. The rates of coal cannot be determined at the time of consumption. In such a situation, after the coal rates are revealed every quarter, fuel surcharge is added to the electricity rates.
● According to the order of 26 July 2023, it is decided that the fixed base fuel surcharge for the year will be added to the bills, which was kept at 54 paise per unit. In such a situation, if the surcharge is reduced in any quarter, a deduction will have to be made from the base fuel surcharge.
