Jaipur : University Grants Commission has declared 157 universities of the country as defaulters. These include 14 universities of Rajasthan. This sudden move of UGC (Union Grant Commission) has shocked everyone. The most shocking thing is that 7 government universities are also included in these 14 defaulter universities of Rajasthan. University Grants Commission has declared 108 government, 47 private and 2 deemed universities as defaulters out of the list of 157. For this, UGC has cited the reason as non-appointment of Lokpal in universities as per the stipulated time and rules.
Universities violated the rules
According to the information, the commission had made it mandatory to appoint an ombudsman in every college to hear the complaints of students as per the 2023 rules of UGC. On January 17, the UGC published a list of universities that did not follow these rules by including them in the defaulter list. These universities were also repeatedly warned in this regard, but the University Grants Commission has taken this step when no action was taken by the universities.

Compliance with the new education policy is necessary
In the new National Education Policy, appointment of Lokpal has been made mandatory for all universities so that the cases of students can be heard seriously and resolved. Many provisions have also been made for the appointment of Lokpal. These also include the provision of appointing a retired judge as Lokpal. Those universities which did not appoint Lokpal keeping in mind the new education policy, those universities have been declared defaulters and warned so that they can make the appointment as soon as possible. A warning has been issued to the defaulting universities by the UGC.
