New Delhi, 5 December (IANS). The country’s Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy has said that domestic coal production in the country is being increased and its import is being reduced. The government has set a target of producing 130 million tonnes of coal by 2030.
Reddy, a minister in the Modi government, while talking to journalists at an event on Thursday, said that coal has an important role in the economic development of the country. The main source of electricity in India is coal. Most of the electricity is produced from coal. It is mainly used in industries like electricity, steel, cement etc. To increase production in these industries, coal production will also have to be increased. He said that one thousand metric tons of coal is expected to be produced this year.
The Union Minister said that it is very important to increase domestic production of coal for the development of self-reliant India. The government is making every possible effort for this. Foreign dependence for coal production is also being reduced. Emphasis is being laid on indigenization of all essential equipment. Old equipment is being replaced. New modern equipment is being used. This will also increase efficiency and promote Swadeshi. Due to this, employment will also increase and youth will get jobs and sources of employment will develop. The government is working in this direction with complete transparency.
In response to a question from journalists, Union Minister Reddy said that the opposition including Congress does not trust the country’s media. These people trust such foreign media, which spread propaganda against India. They try to defame India. People of opposition try to defame the government of the country by resorting to such propaganda system. He said that this is not a mere coincidence, whenever the Parliament session starts, news of defaming India starts appearing in the foreign media and the opposition leaders of our country start creating ruckus on the basis of the same. Due to this, meaningful discussion cannot take place on issues of public concern. The public should be cautious of such elements.
