Uproar during survey of Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, mob pelted stones at police

Sambhal, 24 November (IANS). There was a huge ruckus during the survey of Shahi Jama Masjid located in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. During this, some anti-social elements pelted stones at the police and the police had to use tear gas to control the situation. According to the information, during the survey of Jama Masjid, the situation worsened and violence spread.

Sambhal District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police were present on the spot, but still the atmosphere kept worsening. Local people expressed anger against the survey being conducted by the police. Meanwhile, violent clashes broke out. The crowd started pelting stones at the police and firing was also done. Meanwhile, the police had to use tear gas shells to protect themselves and control the situation. The police also retaliated amid firing and stone pelting, which created an atmosphere of tension in the entire area.

Let us tell you that the Hindu side claims that the Shahi Jama Masjid is a Harihar temple. In this regard, survey work was being done from 7.30 am on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, a crowd started gathering outside the mosque and an uproar started against the survey. The officers tried to pacify the crowd, but some people started pelting stones targeting the police team. The court had ordered a survey after the Hindu side claimed Jama Masjid as Harihar Temple in the court.

A survey was conducted in the mosque on the night of 19 November and the team reached the mosque again on Sunday to conduct the survey. The mosque committee has also given its consent for this survey and the survey of the mosque is being conducted in the presence of both the parties.
