New Delhi, December 2 (IANS). The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced that the 38th National Games will be hosted by Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, 2025. This grand event will see the finest athletes from across the country come together to compete across a total of 36 sports disciplines, showcasing sportsmanship and excellence.
As per the original Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2014 between the IOA and Uttarakhand State Olympic Association (USOA), the National Games were to include competitions in 34 sports disciplines. These sporting disciplines were reaffirmed by the IOA in 2019.
In 2023, the Government of Uttarakhand confirmed its readiness to host the National Games with all 34 agreed sports along with development of infrastructure. The IOA President and the Sports Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) in their meeting recently approved 32 sports disciplines and four exhibition sports events for the 38th National Games.
IOA President PT Usha said, “The 38th National Games in Uttarakhand will prove to be a historic event in promoting both traditional and modern sports in India. The inclusion of exhibition sports like Kalaripayattu, Yogasana, Mallakhambh and Rafting is a tribute to India’s rich heritage. It reflects our commitment to honor and encourage new opportunities for athletes. Uttarakhand has made commendable efforts to ensure world-class facilities and we look forward to a successful celebration of the spirit of sports. Let’s hope.”
