Uzbekistan will not allow gas to be wasted, plans made

Tashkent, November 17 (IANS). Uzbekistani President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said his country would continue to strictly enforce gas accounting and controls in industries to ensure stable supplies and reduce losses.

According to the presidential press service, an important meeting was held on energy supplies, Xinhua news agency reported. In this meeting, Mirziyoyev stressed on reducing and optimizing costs in the gas sector, ensuring reforms and expanding research efforts with leading foreign companies.

The presidential press service further stated that gas losses have reduced due to ‘modernization of industries’ and improved energy efficiency, but much work still remains.

Uzbekistan plans to supply 21 billion cubic meters of gas to consumers this winter. However, if the temperature drops rapidly then its demand can increase further.

It said a separate reserve would be provided to guarantee “uninterrupted power supply” to social institutions and industry.

This country is one of the world’s largest natural gas producers. According to reports, about 60 billion cubic meters (BCM) of gas is produced here. Here natural gas is used in power generation, industrial processes and other activities.
