Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal calls himself ‘lazy’, says he is of this type

Mumbai, November 17 (IANS). Veteran director Shyam Benegal likes films which have a great concept. He revealed many secrets of life in an interview. Also that they are lazy!

‘Well Done Abba’ director Shyam Benegal chats with YouTuber Samdish Bhatia and discusses his favorite films. During the conversation, he clarified that the story and actors of these films were amazing.

Samdish asked Shyam Benegal, “What are your three favorite Indian films?” The director replied, “I think ‘Aurat’ was one of them. Not necessarily the quality of the films. But the content of the film was amazing. A film named ‘Roti’ was also one such film. He further said that ‘Sant Tukaram’ is an amazing film!

Talking about ‘Sant Tukaram’ he further said “Vishnupant Pagnesh is the person who played the role of Sant Tukaram in the film. His emotional songs were excellent. He presented the songs beautifully in the film.”

When he was asked whether he watches Bigg Boss, he beautifully attributed it to his laziness. Said no, I am very lazy.

Shyam Benegal is considered one of the most prolific filmmakers of the post-1970s era. He has received many awards for his amazing work including 18 National Film Awards and a Nandi Award. In 2005, Benegal was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honor for his contribution to cinema.

In 1976, he was awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian honour, by the Government of India and in 1991, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in the field of arts.

Benegal has given the film industry a reputation for realistic cinema. He made the film ‘Ankur’ which was based on economic and sexual exploitation in Telangana.

The director was awarded the 1975 National Film Award for ‘Ankur’. At the same time, Shabana Azmi won the National Film Award for Best Actress. Shyam Benegal produced films like ‘Hari Bhari’, ‘Zubaida’, ‘Well Done Abba’, ‘Charandas Chor’, ‘Bhumika’.
