New Delhi, November 14 (IANS). Today is the 135th birth anniversary of the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. On this special occasion, PM Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, National President of Indian National Congress Mallikarjun Kharge and National General Secretary of Congress Priyanka Gandhi paid tribute to him.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru through social media platform ‘X’. Wrote, ‘On the occasion of his birth anniversary, I pay tribute to our former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.’

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi called Jawaharlal Nehru the father of modern India and builder of institutions. He described him as democratic, progressive, fearless and visionary.

Rahul wrote on X, ‘Respectful tribute to the father of modern India, creator of institutions, India’s first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary. Democratic, progressive, fearless, visionary, inclusive – these values of ‘Hind Ke Jawahar’ are our ideal and the cornerstone of India and will always remain so.

National General Secretary of Congress Priyanka Gandhi, remembering Jawahar Lal Nehru, wrote on ‘X’, ‘Fear is the foundation of all the evils in the world. When we achieved independence after decades of struggle and countless sacrifices, there were still people who played politics of scaring and misleading the innocent public. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru fought them bravely and told the general public – Do not be afraid!’

He further wrote, ‘People who spread fear among the public cannot be true representatives of the public. Public servants stand at the forefront with their chests held high so that people can live fearlessly. Pandit Nehru ji always taught the public about fearlessness and selfless service, while on the other hand, he kept the public supreme at every stage of nation building. Respectful tribute to the creator of modern India.

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, remembering Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary, wrote on ‘X’, ‘There should be unity of mind and heart, there should be a feeling of living together…Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.’

Kharge further wrote, ‘The one who took India from zero to the pinnacle, the architect of modern India, the one who made India developing scientifically, economically, industrially and in various fields, the one who continuously gave the message of ‘unity in diversity’ to the country, the founder of democracy. On the 135th birth anniversary of the fearless sentinel and our source of inspiration, “Jawahar of Hind”, we remember his unprecedented contribution towards the country.

‘Sharing’ an excerpt from Jawahar Lal Nehru’s book The Discovery of India, he further wrote, “I was also fully aware of the diversities and divisions of Indian life, of classes, castes, religions, races, different levels of cultural development Yet I believe that a country with a long cultural background and a common outlook on life develops a spirit which is its own and which pervades all its children, even among themselves. However different they may be… it was this spirit of India that I was looking for, not out of idle curiosity, but because I felt it could give me the key to understanding my country and its people, its ideas and “Can give some guidance for the work.”
