Villagers pelted stones on police in Rajasthan over nuclear power plant, heavy police deployment

Banswara : A fierce ruckus was seen between the villagers and the police on Friday over the proposed nuclear power plant in Banswara district of Rajasthan. In Pratap Dairy village of Danpur block of the district, the villagers including the displaced families from the land acquired for the nuclear plant and the police came face to face in the afternoon. During this, the villagers pelted stones at the police. In which 2 policemen were injured. In response, the police fired tear gas shells and fired in the air. Also, the police dispersed the crowd by lathicharge. According to the information, a 2800 MW nuclear power plant is proposed to be set up in Pratap Dairy village of Banswara. In such a situation, people are being shifted from here to another place. But, even after giving compensation, the villagers are not vacating the land. Allegedly, despite getting compensation, the administration and police squad reached the NPCIL plant premises last night to remove the people occupying the site.

The villagers unanimously pelted stones on the police

On Friday morning, police from three districts were deployed on the spot and people had to be removed from here. Also, preparations were being made to build a wall for the plant. The police started driving people away from the plant premises. On this, the villagers unanimously attacked the police. The crowd pelted stones on the police. Due to which two policemen were injured.

Police resorted to lathicharge to control the crowd

To control the crowd, the police resorted to lathicharge. They also fired tear gas shells and fired in the air. The police have also detained some women and men. They were taken to the Kotwali police station in a bus. District Collector Dr. Indrajit Yadav, Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agrawala, ASP Rajesh Bhardwaj, DSP Suryaveer Singh and more than 200 police personnel were deployed on the spot.
