Due to this faith, many temples were built in Jaipur, due to which Jaipur came to be known as the city of temples. Jaipur is not only famous for its forts, palaces and heritage monuments, but it also has one of the oldest and famous Lord Ganesha temples.
Moti Dungri Ganesh Mandir is one of the famous temples of Jaipur in Rajasthan. This temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. People have special faith and belief in it. There is a huge crowd here on the occasion of ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ and people not only from Jaipur but from the whole country have a special place for this temple. The ancient Ganesha idol installed here is considered miraculous.
History
This temple of Lord Ganesha situated at the foot of Motidungri is the main center of faith of the people of Jaipur. Historians say that the Ganesha idol installed here was built in 1761 AD by the queen of Jaipur’s King Madho Singh I. This idol was brought to Mavli from Gujarat. At that time it was five hundred years old. Jaipur’s Nagar Seth Paliwal brought this idol and under his supervision this temple was built at the foot of Motidungri.
Situation.
There is an ancient Ganesh temple below Moti Dungri on JLN Marg outside the Parkota area of Jaipur. Just south of the Ganesh temple, on a hill, there is a grand temple of Laxminarayan, which is known as ‘Birla Mandir’. Moti Dungri Ganesh fair is held here every Wednesday, due to which there are long queues of vehicles on JL Marg. The people here also have faith in Moti Dungri Ganesh Ji. This temple located on MD Marg from JL Marg is the main center of faith of the people.
Architectural Style
The temple building on the second floor is built in simple urban style. There are some stairs and three gates in front of the temple. In the middle of the two-storey building is the Jagmohan up to the roof and there are two-storey verandahs around the Jagmohan. The rear part of the temple is attached to the priest’s residence.
