Out of which today we will talk about the most famous palace City Palace which is located in the heart of Jaipur city. The City Palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II between 1729 and 1732 AD. ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, in which the pair of Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda made the audience laugh a lot, this film was shot in the City Palace of Jaipur. This palace is the residence of the royal family of Jaipur and some parts of it are open for general public viewing. The city of Jaipur is divided into 8-9 parts. The “City Palace” is present right in the middle of Jaipur city and a special kind of architecture has been done on the walls of the City Palace which is amazing and excellent. This City Palace is built on a hill. Its premises have famous temples, palaces, libraries as well as museums which contain the finest antiques.

History of the City Palace

The City Palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II between 1729 and 1732 AD and he ruled till about 1744 AD. In the early days, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II ruled the Amer city located at a distance of 11 kilometers from Jaipur. But due to lack of water and population in Amer city, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II moved to Jaipur city and made Jaipur city his capital.

After the death of Maharaja Jai ​​Singh, a war broke out among the Rajputs of the region to rule the city of Jaipur, but in 1857 Maharaja Ram Singh supported the British in the Sepoy Mutiny and himself started ruling the city of Jaipur. Historians say that due to the plans of some rulers, the city of Jaipur came to be known as Gulabi Nagari i.e. Pink City. Chandra Mahal, present in the premises of the City Palace, was ruled by the last Maharaja Man Singh II, it is said that the City Palace has been the residence of the royal families since the beginning.

City Palace is known as a historical place, there are many famous palaces, buildings and temples built inside the City Palace, some of these are very special like Pritam Niwas Chowk, Diwan-e-Aam, Diwan-e-Khas, Mubarak Mahal, City Palace Museum, Govind Devji Temple, Maharani Mahal and Baggi Khana etc. which you must visit.

Mubarak Mahal-

Mubarak Mahal was built in the 19th century by Maharaja Madho Singh II. Mubarak Mahal is also known as Shubh Mahal.

This palace is built in Islamic, Rajput and European architecture. This palace is in the form of a museum which includes ancient costumes, clothes, shawls and ancient sarees of the royal family.

Diwan-e-Khas-
Diwan-e-Khas is the main attraction of the City Palace. It is a very special room whose ceilings are decorated with fine workmanship and this room is decorated with golden and red colors.

In this room we also get to see the thrones of very special royal kings and Maharajas. Currently the Diwan-e-Khas room is used as an art gallery.

Diwan-e-Aam-
Diwan-e-Aam is a wonderful huge hall which was constructed from famous white marble, where many fine huge and ancient utensils are stored, these utensils are known as Gangajal. It is said that these utensils were made by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II. As per the orders of the king, these utensils were made by melting 14000 silver coins. Their height is 1.6 meters, their capacity is 4000 liters and their weight is about 340 kg.

Govind Devji Temple-
This temple was built in the 18th century in the city complex. It is said that this temple is dedicated to Lord Shri Krishna. The ceiling of this temple is decorated with gold work and Indian paintings. This temple is one of the most famous places in Jaipur.

Queen’s Palace-
In olden times, Maharani Mahal used to be the residence of queens, but now it has been converted into a museum. Now this museum contains weapons of royal war which are from around 15th century. Historians say that the sword which Queen Victoria gifted to Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh is also present here.
