The popular Kachwaha dynasty of Rajputs ruled the regions of Jaipur and Amer for centuries. The city and the City Palace were founded by Sawai Jai Singh, who planned to shift his capital from Amer in the 17th century. One of the main reasons behind the decision to establish Jaipur and the City Palace was the difficulty in administering the growing population of Amer along with the lack of water and resources.
It was Man Singh II who ruled the City Palace and Jaipur at the time of India’s independence.
