Rajasthan News Desk !!! If we talk about the scariest place in the world, not just India, then the name of Kuldhara comes first. Kuldhara village, located 14 km from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, which has been deserted for the last 200 years, is a haunted place. It is believed that this village was settled on the banks of the Saraswati River by the Paliwal Brahmin community in the year 1300.
At one time this village was very bustling. But today the situation is such that no one is afraid to wander here and this place has not been resettled for 200 years. Let us tell you some interesting things about this village.
Kuldhara village was originally inhabited by Brahmins who migrated to Jaisalmer from the Pali region and settled in Kuldhara village. It is stated in the books and literary records of this village that Kadhan, a Brahmin from Pali, first built his house at this place and also dug a pond, which he named Udhansar. Pali Brahmins were called Paliwals.
According to popular myth, in the 1800s, the village used to be a fiefdom or kingdom under minister Salim Singh, who used to collect taxes and cheat the people. The villagers were very upset due to the taxes imposed on them. It is said that Salim Singh fell in love with the daughter of the village headman and threatened the villagers that if they tried to protest or come out on the streets, he would start collecting more taxes. To save the lives of his villagers as well as the honor of his daughter, the entire village including the headman fled overnight. The villagers left the village deserted and went elsewhere. It is said that while leaving, the villagers cursed the village that no one would be able to live here in the coming days.
Kuldhara village is now a historical site protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Tourists can walk here and get glimpses of what happened during that time. The Kuldhara area is spread over a vast area, which includes about 85 small settlements. All the huts in the villages are broken and in ruins. There is also a Devi temple here, which is now in ruins. There are inscriptions inside the temple that have helped archaeologists gather information about the village and its ancient inhabitants.
You can visit the village daily from 8 am to 6 pm. Since the place is considered haunted, the locals close the gate after sunset. The entry fee to Kuldhara village is Rs 10 per person if you are going by car and Rs 50 if you are going inside by car.
