Jaipur : To recover the cost of Jal Jeevan Mission and drinking water projects, the government is preparing to make Rajasthan Water Supply and Sewerage Corporation functional as soon as possible. On the other hand, it is also being said that just as the governments made electricity expensive by forming electricity companies, water will also be made expensive in the same way. There is a discussion in the Water Supply Department that as soon as the corporation becomes functional, the first blow will fall on about one crore registered consumers of the state. Preparations to implement the formula suggested at the level of the Finance Department are in the final stage. While at present the price of one thousand liters of water is Rs 2.85, this price can be increased 17 times i.e. up to Rs 50 per thousand liters.
It is getting difficult to calculate the cost
Till now, Jaldaay officials have been arguing that the revenue being earned from drinking water in Jaipur city and the state is not even able to cover the cost of the projects. Whereas in Jaipur city itself, many drinking water projects cost more than Rs 500 crore. Although many attempts have been made to increase the cost of water, but due to people’s displeasure, the governments have been silent on this issue.
50 percent of the meters are faulty, even if water is made costly, revenue will not be generated
Jaldaya engineers have started doing calculations regarding the proposed prices of water. Jaldaya engineers say that even if the rate of water per thousand liters is increased 17 times at the corporation level, there is no hope of getting much revenue because the meters installed on 50 percent of the water connections are faulty. Unless there is a correct reading of water consumption, there will be no revenue.
Demonstration at Gandhi Nagar office
The water supply engineers have intensified their protest against the functioning of the corporation. On Wednesday, a demonstration was held under the leadership of Joint Struggle Committee co-convenor Bhavnesh Kuldeep and senior engineers of the department. Struggle Committee member Vijay Singh Rajawat said that as soon as the corporation becomes functional, water will become expensive and then the service conditions of water supply employees will be affected.
