New Delhi, December 2 (IANS). Jagdambika Pal, chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed to review the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, said on Monday that information has been sought from the state governments regarding encroachment on Waqf property and if any information is given to clarify the status of the matter. If needed, we will call the Chief Secretary of the concerned state or the Secretary of the Minority Department.
Jagdambika Pal told IANS, “JPC members from the Waqf Board have said that if they feel that there is encroachment somewhere on the Waqf property, then we have sought information about it from the state governments, because the state governments claim that This encroachment has happened on their land. If there is a need to clarify the situation in this matter, we will call the Chief Secretary or Secretary of the Minority Department. Pay attention to a recent statement by Kalyan Banerjee, in which he said. That wherever someone offers Namaz, that place will become Waqf land. Such statements should motivate JPC members to consider this issue.”
He said, “Also, when Baba Saheb Ambedkar had drafted the Constitution, he had said that if there is a detailed discussion on any bill, then both the ruling party and the opposition should reach a consensus and if there is no consensus then it should be referred to the JPC.” Mamata Banerjee’s government is bringing a separate bill in the state, which clearly shows that they do not believe in parliamentary democracy. Instead, their aim is to send this message to the Muslims. That she stands with them.”
