Raipur, 22 November (IANS). Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday reacted to the killing of 10 Naxalites by security personnel in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
Bhupesh Baghel said, “When the influence of Naxalism increased, people migrated from tribal areas. Tribal people from about 600 villages had migrated to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. But, due to the efforts of our government, these villages were freed from Naxalites. After this the government created necessary infrastructure in these villages. Roads were built, schools established, the PDS system expanded, new employment opportunities were provided, and people were also given access to health services. In this way the government regained the trust of the people in these tribal villages. Apart from this, people of these villages were also given land lease and arrangements were made to purchase their crops at support price, which improved their economic condition.”
He said, “Development works were done by the government in Abujhmar area. There the government constructed two bridges, which restored traffic facilities in the area. Thousands of tribal families in the region were given land leases and irrigation systems were improved, improving their agriculture. Apart from this, telephone service and other basic facilities were also provided here, which not only brought success to the government against Naxal activities but also helped in the action of security forces against Naxalites.”
He said, “Through all these efforts the government strengthened its presence in Naxalite areas and contributed to the development of rural areas, which was perhaps not possible earlier. The government established camps of security forces in Naxal affected areas, especially in the core area, where earlier setting up camps was a challenging task. All these efforts are leading to success today, and the government is proud of these achievements.”
