There will be silence period of 48 hours
Chief Electoral Officer Naveen Mahajan said that guidelines have been issued for the last 48 hours of voting for the Assembly by-election-2024. He said that as per Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, during the ‘silence period’ 48 hours before the end of polling in the constituencies, candidates and their supporters can only go door-to-door and urge voters to vote in their favor. Are. The ban period will start from 6 pm on November 11 and will remain in effect till 6 pm on November 13, the time of closing of voting.

According to Mahajan, the ban on telecast of ‘exit poll’ has also been implemented for the assembly by-elections, which will be held on November 20 evening after the end of the voting period of the last phase of by-elections in other states including Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly General Election-2024. Will be effective till 6:30 pm.

What will be the restrictions during the 48 hours of ‘silence period’
1. In connection with the election, no candidate, political party or person shall call, organize, attend, participate in, or address any public meeting or procession.

2. No election related matter shall be displayed to the public through any other means including cinema, television or electronic media, recorded phone calls or mobile messages.

3. No election related matter shall be publicized before the people by organizing any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or entertainment program with a view to attract the public or by making arrangements for its organization.

If any person violates these provisions, he may be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

4. As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, any political person, who is not a voter or candidate of that constituency, or is not an MP or MLA, cannot stay in that constituency after the end of the election campaign during the silence period. Is.

5. If a political person (other than a candidate) who has the security cover of the state is a voter in the constituency, he will not move in the area after exercising his franchise.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, the Commission has instructed the election machinery, administration and police officers to ensure compliance with these instructions.
