When is Akhand Jyoti lit during Navratri? Know the important rules and its importance.

Jaipur : Shardiya Navratri is going to start from 3rd October. The Kalash will be installed on the 3rd. This auspicious festival of Navratri will be celebrated for 10 full days. Tenth i.e. Dussehra will be celebrated on 13 October. During Navratri, people worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga with devotion. Lighting the Akhand Jyoti during Navratri has special significance. Without this the beginning of the puja is considered incomplete. On the first day after Kalash Sthapana, Akhand Jyoti must be lit. Importance of lighting Akhand Jyoti

According to Astrology and Vastu Acharya Pramod Kumar Aggarwal, lighting Akhand Jyoti during Navratri can remove the darkness prevalent in life and mind. It is considered a symbol of removing darkness from life. If you are going to worship by installing the idol of Maa Durga at home, then definitely light the Akhand Jyoti and this flame should remain burning for the entire nine days. If it gets extinguished in between, it is considered inauspicious. Those whose houses keep this unbroken flame burning for full 9 days, their houses get happiness and prosperity. Special rules for lighting Akhand Jyoti

– Seeing the auspicious time, establish the Kalash on the first day of Sharadiya Navratri. There is a tradition of lighting the Akhand Jyoti at the beginning of the puja, but some rules must be kept in mind.

– If you are going to install the idol of Goddess Durga at home and worship it, then light the lamp in ghee, mustard oil or sesame oil only.

– If you are lighting a ghee lamp then it should be kept on the right side of the idol of Maa Durga. If you light a mustard or sesame oil lamp, keep it on the left side of the mother. Place the lamp over urad dal, rice or black sesame seeds. The flame of the light should be in the north, east or west direction. Do not keep a lamp in the south direction even by mistake.

– Keep in mind that the lamp should remain lit for the entire nine days. In such a situation, keep adding ghee and oil in sufficient quantity.

If the lamp gets extinguished within 9 days, then you can apologize to Maa Durga and light the lamp again.

– If the lamp continues to burn even after nine days, do not extinguish it by blowing. It is considered inauspicious to do so. Let the lamp extinguish itself.
