New Delhi, November 14 (IANS). Independent candidate Naresh Meena, contesting from Devli Uniara assembly seat of Rajasthan, was arrested by the police on Thursday after he slapped the SDM. Earlier on Wednesday, when the police tried to arrest him, the matter took a violent turn. His supporters pelted stones at the police and also carried out arson at many places.
Naresh Meena is contesting from Deoli Uniara assembly seat of Rajasthan as an independent candidate. He was seeking ticket from Congress from this seat, but Congress chose K.C. Gave ticket to Meena. After this, Naresh Meena filed nomination as an independent candidate, due to which Congress expelled him from the party. Even before this he had rebelled against the party. Meena is also said to be a supporter of senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot.
Voting was going on in Deoli Uniara assembly seat of Rajasthan on Wednesday. During this, Naresh Meena allegedly slapped a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Meena alleged that the SDM had made three voters cast their votes secretly. Apart from this, his election symbol was also not clear on the EVM.
By evening the matter escalated considerably. Meena’s supporters vandalized police vehicles and set on fire two police vehicles, another vehicle and about 10 bikes. Many policemen were injured in stone pelting on police. To control the situation, the police resorted to lathi charge and also fired tear gas shells. During this time, the police also detained Meena, but he escaped from the spot after his supporters created ruckus.
After the slap incident, Meena also shared a video on social media. In this he is seen challenging the administration. Meena had said that if the administration has the guts then it should “show it by arresting me”. After this video went viral, Naresh Meena was arrested on Thursday.
According to Ajmer Inspector General of Police Om Prakash, Meena has been arrested and a large number of police forces have been deployed in the violence-hit area. Besides, the activities are also being monitored.
