A month before Diwali, the demand for owls starts increasing excessively in the illegal bird market. In this black market their price ranges from Rs 10 to Rs 50 thousand. After all, why does the demand for owls increase before Diwali? Diwali night is the new moon night. It is also said that owls are sacrificed on a large scale on this night.

Some Hindu beliefs say that Lakshmi rides an owl, while at some places it is also mentioned that the owls only accompany Lakshmi, she rides an elephant. However, no matter how different beliefs may be, owls have a deep connection with Diwali. It is believed that by sacrificing an owl every day of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi resides in the house forever.

There are many stories prevalent in Greek and Asian countries regarding the direct relation of owls to wealth or omens and bad omens. According to the Puranas, this bird, which is able to survive till the end in the most difficult situations, is considered best for Tantra Sadhana due to its specialty.

Why is owl considered Lakshmi’s sister?

This innocent bird with big eyes is directly connected to Hindu beliefs, so the main reason for this is its characteristics. Since it is nocturnal, solitary and emits piercing noises throughout the day, it is also considered to be Alakshmi, i.e. the elder sister of Lakshmi, who is the goddess of misfortune and goes with only those whose accounts of their previous births are yet to be settled.
