Why does the month of Savan start 15 days later in these two districts? Know the reason

Banswara : The festivities of Sawan month have begun today across the country including other districts of the state and today on the first Monday of Sawan month, devotees of Bhole will worship Mahadev by anointing him. On the contrary, in Gujarat and Maharashtra including Banswara and Dungarpur of Vagad region, Sawan month will begin from Hariyali Amavasya i.e. 15 days later. However, Shiva devotees of other provinces and districts are immersed in the devotion of Bhole. Shiva is worshipped in Shiva temples for about one and a half months in Banswara and Dungarpur districts. Let us know why Sawan month starts with a delay of 15 days in the Vagad region.

Saavan starts after 15 days

The geographical location of the tribal district Banswara and the movement of the celestial planets and stars have created a difference in the calculation of the Hindi months here according to the local religious beliefs. However, this difference has no effect on the dates of festivals. They are celebrated equally. Apart from Banswara, Sawan starts only after 15 days in Dungarpur, Saurashtra, half of Maharashtra and the whole of Gujarat. Therefore, the Pandits here mark the Ashadha etc. Samvat in any Muhurta or Lagna Patrika etc.

According to astrologers, the calculation of Hindi months is done from the period of completion of one cycle of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha dates based on the increasing and decreasing phases of the moon and its fullness. These dates are popular and valid everywhere. But in the Vagad region, one month of the Hindi year, Shravan, starts 15 days later. The reason for this is that in other places, Hindi months are counted from Poornima to Poornima, while in the Vagad region, they are counted from Amavasya to Amavasya. This is the reason for this difference. While in the entire country and state, Hariyali Amavasya is celebrated when half of the Shravan month has passed, in the Vagad region, the Shravan month starts from this date. However, the dates of festivals are the same. Here also Hariyali Amavasya is celebrated on the same day. This tradition has been going on for more than 250-300 years.

The effect of passing of Tropic of Cancer
One of the main reasons behind the month of Sawan starting 15 days later in the Vagad region is the movement of the Sun and the Tropic of Cancer passing through here. According to the city’s Pandits and those who have knowledge of astrology, the Sun enters the Tropic of Cancer from Guru Purnima Tithi. From this date, the month of Ashadh ends everywhere and Sawan begins, but in Vagad, the first Amavasya that comes after this date, i.e. Hariyali Amavasya, is considered the beginning of Sawan.

Gujarat has influence on Vagad

According to the Pandits, the Hindi year is calculated from this date in Vagad. Apart from this, the second main reason is that before Samvat 1700, the Vagad region was in contact with the princely states of Mewar. Being close to Gujarat, the culture of this place like lifestyle, language, religion, etc. kept influencing the people. Gujarati and Vagadi languages are also similar. In all the Hindi almanacs of Gujarat, the Hindi months are counted from Amavasya to Amavasya. Due to this, in Vagad too, the months are counted from Amavasya to Amavasya.

The effect of twelve and a half Jyotirlingas

Banswara is also called Lodhi Kashi. Vagad region is the only region in the state where there are twelve and a half Jyotirlingas. These include Ankleshwar Mahadev located in Kagdi, Vaneshwar Mahadev located in Vaneshwar area, Neelkanth Mahadev, Dhaneshwar, Rameshwar Mahadev located in Kalika Mata, Dhuleshwar Mahadev located in Raj Talab, Bileshwar Mahadev located in Mahal, Neelkanth Mahadev in Nagarwada, Gupteshwar Mahadev in Chandpol Gate Maliwada, Siddhnath Mahadev Jawahar Bridge, Trayambakeshwar Mahadev near MG Hospital, Ghantaleshwar Mahadev and Ardh Swayambhu Bhagoreshwar Mahadev located at Mahalakshmi Chowk. Its half Shivling is in Bhagora village near Partapur. Pandit Avadh Bihari told that in Vagad region, the calculation of Hindi months starts from the date of the Sun’s entry into the Tropic of Cancer, not from the phases of the moon. Due to this, Sawan starts 15 days later. Because the Sun enters the Tropic of Cancer from Guru Purnima.
