By worshiping Lord Shiva in the month of Sawan, every wish of the devotee is fulfilled. Along with this, all kinds of material and worldly pleasures are attained in the mortal world. In this month, the rules prescribed by the scriptures are followed. By following these rules, Mahadev, the God of Gods, is pleased. His grace showers on the devotee. But do you know why it is advised in the scriptures not to eat curd and greens during Sawan? Come, let’s know everything about it-
Why is Lord Shiva fond of the month of Saavan?
Long ago, Lord Shiva had vowed not to marry after Mata Sati attained chastity. At that time, Tarakasur did a tough penance of Brahma ji. Pleased with the tough penance, Brahma ji granted Tarakasur the desired boon. Under this boon, Tarakasur could be defeated only by Lord Shiva’s son. Tarakasur became very powerful after getting the boon from Brahma ji. He established his supremacy over heaven with his strength.
At that time, the gods gave the responsibility of convincing Lord Shiva to Kaamdev. However, Kaamdev could not succeed in this task. At this time, Mother Parvati was unhappy with Lord Shiva’s reaction. Mother Parvati felt that Shiva had disrespected her. This is described in the Kumarasambhavam book written by Kalidas. At that time, Mother Parvati vowed to marry Lord Shiva. Later, Mother Parvati pleased Lord Shiva by doing hard penance. At that time, Lord Shiva promised to marry Mother Parvati.
It is said that Lord Shiva was pleased with Maa Parvati’s fasting on sixteen Mondays. At the same time, after Mata Sati attained satitva, Lord Shiva got angry and sent Bhadrakali and Veerbhadra to Kankhal, the residence of King Daksha. Where Veerbhadra killed King Daksha. Then the gods prayed to Lord Shiva. Pleased with this, Lord Shiva gave the boon of protection to King Daksha. At that time, King Daksha apologized to Lord Shiva and requested to reside in Kankhal. On the request of King Daksha, Lord Shiva gave him the boon that he would reside in Kankhal in the month of Sawan. Since time immemorial, Lord Shiva comes to Kankhal in the month of Sawan.
Scientific significance
Prof. Girija Shankar Shastri, Head of the Department of Astrology, Kashi Hindu University, says that due to the slowness of fire at this time, all living beings, trees, plants, vegetation get life from the Som element. During this time, trees, plants and creepers remain in the growing order (growth order). At the same time, insects and moths get pollen or juice from creepers. This contaminates the leaves. At the same time, milk-providing animals consume these leaves. Due to this, the consumption of greens and milk or curd provided by animals in the month of Sawan has a bad effect on health (Sawan dietary restrictions). Apart from this, the risk of cold-cough and flu also increases due to the consumption of curd. There is also an imbalance in the temperature during this time. Therefore, the consumption of greens or curd is prohibited in the month of Sawan.
Religious significance
During worship, many types of leaves including Belpatra, Bhaang leaves, Betel leaves are offered to Lord Shiva. Abhishek is done with milk and curd. Lord Shiva is pleased with the offering of these things. His blessings are showered on the devotee. Religious scholars say that Lord Shiva loves nature very much. Therefore, greens and curd should not be consumed in Sawan.
