It is named Hawa Mahal because the palace has high walls for women so that they can easily see and watch the festivities taking place outside the palace. It was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It was designed by Lal Chand Ustad in the form of the crown of the Hindu god Krishna. The exterior of this five-storey building has honeycombs of equal size and the palace also has 953 small windows called jharokhas and these jharokhas are also decorated with fine artwork. At that time women used to go out with a net on their face and observe daily life. At that time it was mandatory for women to cover their face with a veil. It is said that with the help of these nets, cool air touched their faces and their face remained cool even in the hot sun. After 50 years, the palace was renovated in 2006, at that time the value of the monument was about Rs 4568 million. The corporate sector there took the responsibility of protecting the monument but later the Unit Trust of India took over its responsibility.

After Hawa Mahal became famous, its premises were also developed. Tourists can see many historical things in Hawa Mahal. Another attraction of the palace is the curved edges of the wall. Like other monuments built in Jaipur, this palace is also made of red and pink stones.
