Nagaur : 162 (134 private and 28 government) colleges are running under the College Education Commissionerate in Nagaur and Didwana-Kuchaman districts. There are separate medical, nursing, agricultural and polytechnic colleges here. Among these, about 2 lakh self-study and regular students are studying. According to the 2011 census, Nagaur (including Didwana-Kuchaman) district is the fourth largest district of the state in terms of population and the fifth largest in terms of area. In the last 13 years, the level of education has also increased along with the population. The total population of both the districts has reached around 40 lakhs. In the last 15-20 years, the inclination of youth has increased towards higher education. Despite this, there is no government engineering college in Nagaur district yet, whereas on the other hand, an engineering college has been opened in the small district Karauli, where there is not even a railway station yet.
According to Rajasthan Economic Review-2024, ‘At present there is a huge demand for technical education. Probably that is why 3 new government engineering colleges have opened in one year. According to All India Higher Education Survey 2020-21, maximum number of students have enrolled in PhD in Engineering and Technology.
big demand of youth
Today the youth of Nagaur is feeling the lack of university and engineering college at the district headquarters. UG and PG level engineering education is available in only 3 cities of Western Rajasthan (Jodhpur, Bikaner and Barmer), whereas this region covers 60 percent of the area of the state and 40 percent of the population. To remove this regional disparity, the government should soon approve an engineering college in Nagaur.
Expert Comment: Have to go to other districts
We have submitted a letter to Rajasthan Farmers Commission Chairman CR Chaudhary demanding the opening of an engineering college in Nagaur. Nagaur is a very big district in terms of area and population, yet there is no engineering college within a radius of 150 kilometers of Nagaur. Whereas engineering colleges have been opened in many districts smaller than Nagaur in the state. A large number of students from the district are going into the field of engineering. Since there is no college here, they have to go to other districts. If the college opens, the interest among small children will also increase.
