New Delhi, December 10 (IANS). Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasad said that women-led startups are growing rapidly in India’s tech ecosystem in more than 600 districts. The Union Minister said that more than half of the startups in these districts are run under the leadership of women.
He said this while inaugurating the fourth edition of India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) at Bharat Mandapam.
This year’s theme, ‘Innovating Internet Governance for India’, highlights the country’s commitment to leveraging the Internet for sustainable, inclusive and equitable development.
He stressed that government initiatives have reduced the digital divide, brought technology to rural communities and created opportunities for all.
The Union Minister said, “Today 95 percent of our villages are connected with 3G-4G connectivity and our startup ecosystem has reached more than 600 districts, more than half of which are led by women.”
The Union Minister further said that India’s transformational journey in the digital sector is unprecedented. A model for the world. With over 1.4 billion citizens and nearly 1 billion internet users, India has emerged as a vibrant digital economy, setting global benchmarks in innovation.
“India’s transformational journey over the last decade, including breakthroughs like UPI, Aadhaar and the Bharat Net project, serves as a model for other countries,” he said.
The Minister of State stressed the need for collective efforts to shape digital policies that reflect the values of equality, transparency and sustainability.
The Union Minister outlined the government’s vision to establish India as a global leader in AI.
“Our goal is to build AI in India and make AI useful for India, and also make AI useful for everyone,” he said.
The event was a vibrant platform for dialogue and action, where policymakers, industry leaders and civil society discussed the future of internet governance.
