Beijing, November 18 (IANS). Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Rio de Janeiro on November 17, marking the beginning of his much-awaited state visit to Brazil and his participation in the 19th G-20 Summit. Xi’s visit, invited by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, underlines their shared commitment to strengthening ties between the two countries and global cooperation.
Upon his arrival Xi delivered a written statement in which he expressed his heartfelt respect for the Brazilian government and its people. Highlighting the enduring friendship between China and Brazil, he said that despite being separated by vast oceans, the two countries remain close allies and reliable partners.
“China and Brazil are good friends pursuing common goals and good partners moving forward together,” President Xi said. As leading developing countries in the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, their cooperation represents a powerful example of mutual support and synergy.
Xi stressed his eagerness to cooperate with President Lula to deepen strategic trust, align their development strategies, and discuss international and regional issues.
He expressed confidence that the visit will promote bilateral cooperation in various fields and lay the foundation for a “Golden Fifty Years” in China-Brazil relations. In the context of the G-20 summit, President Xi reiterated his commitment to advocating for a fairer, more inclusive global order.
He highlighted the importance of the G-20 as a forum for promoting equitable economic globalization and multipolarity, and emphasized China’s role in promoting international economic cooperation.
The visit, which combines bilateral diplomacy with multilateral engagement, is expected to further advance China-Brazil relations while contributing to the broader global agenda.
