Zia ur Rehman Burke welcomed Supreme Court’s direction on Sambhaal violence

New Delhi, November 29 (IANS). Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MP Zia ur Rehman Burke on Friday welcomed the Supreme Court’s direction regarding the Sambhal violence.

Speaking to IANS, Burke said, “We had gone to the Supreme Court because we were hopeful that justice would be provided. The court has given a good order. Hearings in lower courts have been put on hold. Apart from this, the survey report has been asked to be kept in a sealed envelope. The administration has been instructed to remain neutral in the entire matter.”

The SP MP said, “Now we will file another petition in the Supreme Court in this matter, in which we will demand that a commission should be formed under the leadership of a sitting judge of the Supreme Court to investigate this matter, because we will not get relief from the commission formed by the administration. Not satisfied.”

It is noteworthy that regarding the recent dispute in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, the Supreme Court has asked the state government to ensure peace and harmony.

The top court said that the state government will have to take all necessary steps to maintain peace. Additionally, the Supreme Court also directed that the tension arising from the dispute should be resolved soon and social harmony should be maintained in the area. He said that the survey report should not be made public for now and it should be kept in a sealed envelope. The court also gave the Muslim side an opportunity to challenge the order of the lower court in the High Court.

Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain told the media that a petition was filed in the Supreme Court. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to maintain peace. The Mosque Committee has also been given a chance to approach the High Court.
