Jaipur : Rajasthan’s world famous Sambhar Lake, which is world famous for salt industry. Thousands of birds also come to this lake after crossing the seven seas to fill their stomachs. But now, since October 26, more than 500 birds have died in the same Sambhar Lake due to a disease called ‘avian botulism’. An official gave this information on Friday. He told that after treatment, about 38 birds were released in the lake. The investigation report from Central Avian Research Institute, Bareilly has confirmed the death of migratory birds. Investigation has revealed that the birds died due to ‘botulism’.
520 birds died due to ‘botulism’
Subdivision officer Jitu Kulhari said, ‘We came to know about the death of the birds on October 26. Since then, 520 birds have died due to ‘botulism’. Botulism has been confirmed in the laboratory test report. Botulism is a serious neuromuscular disease. This disease affects the nervous system of birds, causing their wings and legs to become paralyzed.
Forest department team is doing treatment
Kulhari said that dead and sick birds are being removed from the lake area. Members of 10 teams from SDRF, Animal Husbandry, Forest Department and Administration are engaged in rescue and relief operations in the lake area. He told that the sick birds are being rescued and brought to the relief center set up in Mithri, where the teams of Animal Husbandry and Forest Department are treating them.
