Nagaur : the Taurus (bull) rearing center operated for the last several years at Nagaur district headquarters and the buffalo breeding farm operated at Bakaliya in Ladnun has come to the point of being locked. The main reason for this is shortage of staff. Training is being given to cattle rearers in the Taurus breeding center of Nagaur for the last one year, while the buffalo breeding center of Bakalia is non-functional for the last one year. There is not a single employee working there. Additional charge of the farm has been given to Senior Veterinary Officer First Class Veterinary Hospital, Nibi Jodha. Although a budget of lakhs of rupees is being spent every year on the Bakalia Buffalo Breeding Centre, the cattle farmers are not getting any benefit from it. It is noteworthy that there is no buffalo breeding center operating anywhere in the entire state.
Training center running in the farm: As per the announcement made by the state government in the budget two years ago, Animal Husbandry Training Center has been operating at Vrishabh Palan Kendra for the last one year. There are instructions to provide training to the cattle rearers of Nagaur, Didwana-Kuchaman, Bikaner and Pali districts in the Animal Husbandry Training Center of Nagaur.
From bull rearing to goat rearing, that too has been closed for the last one year.
The Taurus Rearing Center adjacent to the cattle fair grounds in Nagaur was started years ago to promote the Nagauri breed of cattle. Nagauri breed of bulls was famous all over the country, hence good breed bulls were reared here and given to cattle farmers, so that the breed could be improved. As the usefulness of oxen in farming decreased, the demand for bulls also decreased. In view of this, the Animal Husbandry Department started rearing buffaloes instead of bulls. Small stalls of Murrah breed were brought from Haryana and then enlarged and sold to cattle farmers on subsidy, so that the breed of buffalo could be improved in the district. But this scheme was also stopped a few years ago and started rearing goats of Sirohi breed. After giving goats to cattle farmers on subsidy for some time, this scheme has also been stopped since last one year. Although the officials of the Taurus Rearing Center say that the scheme has not been stopped, but at present there is not a single goat in the centre.
