Perth, 25 November (IANS). After the team’s defeat in the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australian captain Pat Cummins praised Jasprit Bumrah, calling him one of the best bowlers in the world. With a big win in the Perth Test, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the series.
Bumrah performed brilliantly in the match with 5-30 in the first innings and 3-42 in the second innings. This bowler played an important role in the team’s 295-run victory. Also, this was his first Test win as acting captain.
Cummins said in the post-match press conference, “I thought he bowled really well. He is one of the best bowlers in the world. He will always be a challenge. So we have to find ways to deal with him. I especially But it seemed that on the first day the Indian bowlers created problems for our team.”
He also backed top-order batsman Marnus Labuschagne to make a comeback in the series. The second match will be played with pink ball, which will start from December 6 in Adelaide.
Labuschagne scored two runs in the first innings of the Perth Test and three runs in the second innings. His average in 19 matches since 2023 is only 31.75, which is much lower than his career average of 48.45.
Pat Cummins said, “Marnus and many other players in the team did not perform as we wanted. All the batsmen, especially Marnus, have worked hard in the nets. He is always trying to make the smallest improvements. “There will be a lot of conversations with the coaches this week about his approach and what he can do differently.”
The Australian captain expressed hope that the team will bounce back from the mistakes made in the Perth Test and perform well in the next match.
