New Delhi, November 28 (IANS). The central government is working on linking the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). It aims to provide AB-PMJAY medical care benefits to 14.43 crore ESI beneficiaries. This information was given by the Ministry of Labor and Employment on Thursday.
The ministry informed that ESIC is working on expanding health care access to the workforce and their dependents under the guidance of Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labor and Employment.
The ministry said, “Linking the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) with the facilities of Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) will directly benefit 14.43 crore ESI beneficiaries and their families. This will enable them to avail quality health care across India.” Will be able to avail medical services.”
Ashok Kumar Singh, Director General, ESIC, said that after the launch of the scheme, ESIC beneficiaries will get access to secondary and tertiary medical services in more than 30,000 AB-PMJAY-empanelled hospitals across the country. This benefit can be availed “with no financial limit on treatment cost”.
Further said that this partnership will promote accessibility and affordability of health services for all beneficiaries. Charitable hospitals across the country will also be empaneled for the treatment of ESI beneficiaries.
At present, the ESI scheme provides medical care under 165 hospitals, 1,590 dispensaries, 105 dispensaries cum branch offices (DCBOs) and around 2,900 empaneled private hospitals.
In the last 10 years, the ESI scheme has been implemented in 687 out of 788 districts in the country. In 2014, this scheme was in 393 districts.
“By linking the ESI scheme with PMJAY, this provision of medical care can now be extended to the remaining non-implementing districts,” the ministry said.
