China and United Nations signed fund donation expansion agreement

Beijing, November 23 (IANS). The China-UN Peace and Development Fund Steering Committee held its ninth meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York. Fu Chong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Courtenay Rattray, Director of the Office of the UN Secretary-General, signed a fund donation extension agreement on behalf of the Chinese government and the United Nations, respectively. Which confirmed that the Chinese government will continue donating until 2030 after the fund expires in 2025.

Fu Chong said that through the China-UN Peace and Development Fund, the Chinese government supports the United Nations in implementing nearly 160 projects in the field of peace and development, benefiting more than 100 countries. China has provided strong support to the promotion of the UN 2030 Agenda and the implementation of major UN initiatives in the field of peace and security. The Fund has become an important cooperation platform between China and the United Nations to promote global development and combat security challenges.

Courtenay Rattray, Director of the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, expressed great gratitude to the Government of China for establishing the Fund and continuing donations to the Fund, and highly appreciated the positive results achieved by the Fund. He hopes that the Fund will advance cross-field cooperation projects, attract multilateral development institutions and investment banks to participate in Fund cooperation, and expand its impact.
