Jaisalmer News Desk: The life-size statue of former Jaisalmer MLA and Gandhian leader Govardhan Das Kalla, installed near the local Air Force intersection, was unveiled with a ceremonial program on Tuesday. Many people including BJP-Congress leaders were present on this occasion. On this occasion, Municipal Council Chairman Harivallabh Kalla said that Govardhan Das Kalla worked throughout his life for the development of entire Western Rajasthan including Jaisalmer and solving the public problems here. The statue has been installed here as a tribute from the entire society to the former MLA. Which was unveiled on Tuesday. He said that on this occasion, political leaders and administrative officials along with representatives of different sections of the society paid tribute to the statue.
BJP-Congress leaders joined
In the program of unveiling the statue, former minister Harish Choudhary, BD Kalla, BJP Jaisalmer MLA Chhotu Singh Bhati, former MLA Sang Singh Bhati, former MP Colonel Sona Ram Choudhary, former MLA Multanaram Barupal, Municipal Council Chairman Harivallabh Kalla, Pokaran Municipality Chairman Manish Many leaders, public representatives and dignitaries including priests were present.
Kalla was MLA from 1998 to 2003.
Govardhan Das Kalla was MLA in Jaisalmer from 1998 to 2003. Kalla struggled to solve the problems of the common people not only during his tenure but also before and after. The former MLA always worked for the development of Jaisalmer. Kalla did every work by taking people of all religions and classes together. After which now the former MLA late has been installed by the city council at the Air Force intersection. A life-size statue of Govardhan Kalla was installed.
Kalla was a Gandhian leader
Former MLA Govardhan Kalla died on 9 September 2019. He was a Gandhian from the beginning and also worked with Manikya Lal Verma. Just a day before the death of Govardhan Kalla, the then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had gone to his house to inquire about his well-being. Kalla died the next day after meeting Gehlot. Kalla contested the elections in 1989 on a Congress ticket and lost by only 2200 votes. After this, he became MLA in 1993 with a margin of 15 thousand 692 votes.
