Jodhpur : A person died due to superstition in Lohawat area of Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. The incident took place when Shravan Singh (48) drowned in the canal while performing a tantric ritual prescribed by a Bhope of Pilwa. His family told that a Bhope had asked him to perform various rituals for three Saturdays. On the first Saturday, the pot was to be kept at the crossroads, on the second Saturday it was to be put in running water and on the third Saturday it was to be kept in the cremation ground.
Foot slipped while putting pot in the canal in the dark of night
Shravan Singh reached the canal with other members of his family at 11.15 pm on Saturday night. There he tried to pour the pot, but suddenly his feet slipped in the darkness and he fell into the canal. By the time his companions arrived to find him, the pot had burst, but there was no sign of Shravana Singh. Shravan Singh disappeared before the eyes of the family.
The dead body was found away from the incident on the second day in the evening.
This incident was immediately informed to the police. The team of Lohawat police station started searching for them in the canal with the help of local divers, but even after searching throughout the night, there was no success. The search was conducted again the next morning and the body was found near Panchla culvert last evening. The body was sent to the mortuary of Lohawat Hospital, where it was handed over to the family after post-mortem.
The brother said that the young man had disappeared before his eyes.
Shravan Singh’s brother told the police that about 5-6 people of the family had gone near the canal by car. It was dark there at that time. Shravan Singh had to do the work of keeping the pot in the canal. But he disappeared before our eyes. We couldn’t understand anything. We were already scared that we would have to go to the crematorium on the third Saturday, but little did we know that death would come like this even before we could go to the crematorium. Shravan’s brother told the police that he had got the rituals done from a Tantrik for peace and happiness in the family. I didn’t know that this would be a burden on the family.
