
Riasi, 6 January – In a significant move to curb crime and maintain public order, the Riasi district police in Jammu and Kashmir conducted a successful operation on Monday, arresting two habitual offenders and drug addicts in the Katra area during routine patrolling.
According to reports, a police team from Katra police station was on its daily patrol when it spotted two suspicious individuals. On noticing the police presence, the men attempted to flee but were promptly chased and apprehended after a short pursuit.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rinku, son of Manohar Lal, resident of Ward Number 11, Katra, and Rakesh Kumar, son of Bishan Das, originally from Nagrota, Jammu, currently residing in Katra. Background checks revealed that both have been previously involved in multiple criminal activities and are known drug users.
The police have initiated legal proceedings against them under Sections 129 and 170 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS). The authorities stated that such actions are part of ongoing efforts to ensure a safe environment for the public and to clamp down on crime.
The operation was led by Inspector Ranjit Singh Rao, Station House Officer of Katra Police Station, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishma Dubey (JKPS) and SP Katra Vipan Chandran (JKPS). The team carried out the operation with vigilance and responsibility under the guidance of senior officials.
SSP Parmvir Singh (JKPS) emphasised the district police’s commitment to maintaining law and order. He urged the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity to the police, noting that effective cooperation between the community and law enforcement is crucial to controlling crime.
