Water Supply Concerns Rise in Udaipur Ahead of Summer

Udaipur, October 8: As the monsoon season comes to an end, concerns are growing regarding the drinking water supply for the upcoming summer in Udaipur. This year, the region has experienced below-normal rainfall, leading to insufficient water levels in major reservoirs, which may increase pressure on water supply during the hot months ahead.
The current water level in Fatehsagar is approximately 5.68 feet, while it has a maximum capacity of 13 feet. Similarly, Pichola holds about 7.84 feet of water against its capacity of around 11 feet. With inadequate inflow post-monsoon, questions arise about how long this storage will meet the city’s needs during the summer. The demand for water is expected to rise due to both domestic consumption and the tourist season.
If there is no additional inflow during the winter and the next monsoon is delayed, reliance on alternative sources may increase. Therefore, the water supply department must begin strategizing on alternative water sources, reservoir water extraction, and demand management plans. While there is no immediate crisis, the current water levels serve as a clear warning for the upcoming summer.
