Demands for Investigation into BJP Leaders Mysterious Death in Tripura

Agartala, May 11: The opposition parties CPI(M) and Congress have called for a high-level impartial investigation into the mysterious death of Rahul Kishore Roy, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), in North Tripura district. Roy’s body was discovered in the bathroom of his residence on May 5, sparking widespread public outrage and political reactions across Tripura. He was the president of the BJYM’s Dharmanagar Mandal and an elected councillor of the Dharmanagar Municipal Council. Police suspect that the 38-year-old BJP leader may have committed suicide, but no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhary emphasized the urgent need for a fair and high-level investigation to uncover the reasons behind Roy’s death and to ensure justice for the guilty. CPI(M) Tripura state secretary and Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhary stated that the government should stand by Roy’s pregnant wife and provide her with moral, economic, and social support.

Digbijay Chakraborty, president of the Congress in North Tripura district, alleged that Roy fell victim to internal strife within the BJP. The Congress leader claimed that Roy took this extreme step after facing harassment and attacks from some party workers. He also demanded a high-level independent investigation into the death.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha assured that a fair investigation would be conducted regarding the case. In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister stated that he wanted to assure that the allegations made by Roy’s wife would be thoroughly and impartially investigated, and appropriate legal action would be taken as per the law.

Chief Minister Saha further expressed his sorrow over the untimely demise of BJYM’s Dharmanagar Mandal president Rahul Kishore Roy, praying for the peace of his soul and extending his heartfelt condolences to the family.

This incident occurred just a day after the announcement of BJP candidate Zahar Chakraborty’s victory in the by-election for the Dharmanagar assembly seat on May 4, leading to widespread suspicion and concern in the area.

The death has triggered intense political and social unrest throughout the town, which is considered the second most important commercial center in Tripura after Agartala. Party workers, supporters, and local residents took to the streets demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and strict punishment for them. Protesters also blocked major roads in Dharmanagar, escalating tensions in the town.
