Jaipur : Children die of diarrhea in Rajasthan. According to government data, every year more than 3900 children die of diarrhea. Now the government will run a campaign to reduce it to zero. Additional Chief Secretary of Medical and Health Department Shubhra Singh said that our goal is to reduce deaths due to diarrhea to zero in the coming time. For this purpose, as per the instructions of the Government of India, Stop Diarrhea Campaign will be run from 1 July to 31 August for effective prevention of diarrhea in the state. All the concerned departments should make this campaign successful by discharging their responsibilities with micro planning and complete coordination.
Every year more than 3900 children die from diarrhea in Rajasthan
Shubhra Singh was reviewing the preparations for Stop Diarrhoea Campaign-2024 at Swasthya Bhawan on Wednesday. She said that Rajasthan’s situation in diarrhoea control is better than the national average and other states, but it is still a matter of concern that more than 3900 children die of diarrhoea every year in the state. The next two months are challenging in terms of seasonal and waterborne diseases. In view of this, all the concerned departments should ensure holistic and coordinated preparations. Our goal should be that not a single child dies of diarrhoea in the state.
More attention will be given to sensitive sections and areas
The Additional Chief Secretary said that most deaths due to diarrhea occur in economically and socially weaker sections, slums, backward areas, flood or drought affected areas etc. Such sensitive sections and areas should be identified and diarrhea prevention activities should be conducted there with special focus. Mrs. Singh said that as soon as the academic session starts in schools, children should be made aware about prevention of diarrhea. Various activities should be organized in schools to create awareness about diarrhea.
Instructions for connecting people to the campaign
Shubhra Singh said that the cooperation of village health, sanitation and nutrition committees should also be taken in the Stop Diarrhea campaign in rural areas. Also, make this campaign successful by increasing maximum public participation including NGOs, self-help groups, social activists. She said that the Water Supply Department should solve the problem of contaminated water due to leakage in pipelines during monsoon as much as possible. Ensure measures to not use water from such water sources whose water is likely to be contaminated. Also, drinking water samples should be taken and tested regularly.
Keep adequate availability of ORS and Zinc tablets
The Additional Chief Secretary directed the Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation to make proper arrangements for ORS and Zinc tablets. He said that these should be distributed door-to-door through ASHA and NNM. There should be proper arrangements for the treatment of diarrhea in medical institutions. Extensive publicity should be ensured among the general public regarding prevention of diarrhea. Along with this, necessary training should also be given to all the participating departments and institutions.
