Jodhpur : After the previous Congress government, now the current BJP government of the state has also refused to buy millet at the minimum support price (MSP). The state government has informed about its decision to this effect in the Rajasthan High Court. During the hearing on Thursday in the division bench of Justice Shri Chandrashekhar and Justice Kuldeep Mathur, Additional Advocate General Praveen Khandelwal told the court that the state government has decided not to buy millet at the minimum support price in the Kharif marketing season 2024-25.

Advocate Moti Singh Rajpurohit, on behalf of the petitioner Kisan Welfare Society, informed that the present Rajasthan government had accepted its manifesto during the elections as a policy document in the cabinet meeting held some time ago. Earlier in 2022, the previous Congress government had expressed its inability to purchase millet at the minimum support price, saying that after purchase, there is no demand for distribution of millet in schemes like public distribution system. The central government is ready to reimburse the grain purchase cost on the condition that the grain purchased is distributed in the public distribution system.
