Jerusalem, 30 November (IANS). A statement issued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Israeli fighter jets targeted a rocket launcher in southern Lebanon.
The statement said Friday’s attack “followed the identification of terrorist activity and the movement of Hezbollah’s portable rocket launchers in southern Lebanon,” Xinhua news agency reported.
The attack took place despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. On Wednesday, an agreement was announced to end the conflict that had been going on for almost 14 months between the two.
The statement also said that IDF troops are deployed in southern Lebanon, working to eliminate any threats to Israel and violations of the ceasefire.
Earlier on Friday, the IDF warned residents of 63 villages in southern Lebanon not to return to their homes until further notice. IDF spokesman Avichay Edrai posted a map on the social media platform X showing the restricted area, where the villages are located. He warned that anyone entering the area could be in danger.
The area is approximately 120 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide, stretching from Nakoura in the west to Sheba in the east.
Let us inform you that Israel’s Security Cabinet had approved the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah in Lebanon on Tuesday night. This was announced on Wednesday. According to the ceasefire agreement, the Lebanese army will take control of the southern border areas over the next 60 days, Israel will gradually withdraw and civilians will return home.
