Gorakhpur, December 3 (IANS). Today, under the guidance of Gorakshpeethadhishwar and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Gorakhpur, which is shining on the scale of development, is also recognized as Gyan Nagri (Knowledge City). Yogi Adityanath’s grandfather Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath Ji Maharaj had laid the foundation of this knowledge city by establishing Maharana Pratap Education Council in 1932.
Its structure was expanded by the present Peethadhishwar’s revered Gurudev Brahmalin Mahant Avedyanath Ji Maharaj. Yogi Adityanath has taken up the task of fulfilling the resolutions of Dadaguru and his Gurudev to strengthen nationalism, values and self-reliance through the spread of education in Eastern Uttar Pradesh by expanding various projects.
It is the result of the continuous determined efforts of three generations of Gorakshpeeth that today, under the leadership of Maharana Pratap Education Council, Gorakhpur has earned the reputation of a knowledge city. It is well known that Gorakhpur district is a big center of education for the population of about five crores in eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Bihar and the Terai of Nepal. Maharana Pratap Education Council in Gorakhpur, developed as an education hub, has been playing the role of a lighthouse for more than nine decades.
Three generations of Gorakshpeetha have continuously expanded the spread of light beam from this pillar. Maharana Pratap Parishad’s expansion from primary education to private universities is a testimony to its educational service journey. Three functional universities for higher and technical education, the first AYUSH University of the state for regulation of AYUSH medical education system, AIIMS and medical colleges for medical education, polytechnics, engineering educational institutions, ITIs, nursing and paramedical colleges and colleges from primary to secondary. The list is so long that one gets tired of counting. This is the identity of any knowledge city. This is the identity of Gorakhpur today. The forging of this identity had begun nine decades ago.
The seeds for educational renaissance in the entire eastern Uttar Pradesh including Gorakhpur were sown by the then head of Gorakshpeeth, Mahant Digvijaynath, in the form of Maharana Pratap Education Council 92 years ago. After him, it has become a banyan tree under the supervision of Brahmalin Mahant Avedyanath and subsequently under the supervision of the current Peethadhishwar and Chief Minister of the state Yogi Adityanath.
This year is the 92nd year of establishment of MP Education Council and this educational project of Gorakshpeeth has been continuously lighting the torch of knowledge since the first year of its establishment. Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath University, encompassing everything from Ayurveda College to Medical College, is itself an extension of Maharana Pratap Education Council, while this Council has also played an important role in the establishment of Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, the first university established in this region of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The journey of Maharana Pratap Education Council started with the opening of a school in a rented house in Bakshipur in 1932 by Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath. Junior High School was recognized in 1935 and education up to High School also started from 1936. Meanwhile, due to the efforts of Mahant Digvijaynath, land was found in Civil Lines and this high school was shifted here. The project of educational awakening, started in the name of Maharana Pratap, went through Inter College and reached Degree College by 1949-50.
The founder of this institution, Brahmlin Mahant Digvijaynath, who is committed to education in accordance with Indian culture and values of life, also gets the credit for the establishment of Gorakhpur University, who dedicated the Maharana Pratap Degree College established by him in 1958 for the establishment of the university. After him, his disciple the then Gorakshpeethadhishwar Mahant Avedyanath carried forward the spread of knowledge through this education council.
After assuming the managerial responsibility of Maharana Pratap Education Council, Yogi Adityanath has expanded its educational scope in many dimensions. At present, dozens of institutions from primary to higher education, English, Sanskrit, technical education (polytechnic and engineering colleges), medical (MBBS and BAMS) and paramedical (nursing) are running under Maharana Pratap Education Council. The biggest project in this is Mahayogi Gorakhnath University. Apart from Gorakhpur, the area of educational institutions run by the council extends to Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Devipatan and Varanasi.
