Hanumangarh : Martyr Major Vikas Bhambhu, a resident of Rampura village in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan, will be awarded the Shaurya Chakra posthumously. In a program organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 5, President Draupadi Murmu will confer the Shaurya Chakra posthumously to Shreya Chaudhary, wife of martyr Major Vikas Bhambhu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief will also be present in the program. Major Vikas Bhambhu was martyred in Arunachal Pradesh on 21 October 2022. Earlier also Major Vikas Bhambhu was awarded the Seva Medal and for showing indomitable courage till the last moments during his services, Martyr Major Vikas Bhambhu will be awarded the Shaurya Chakra posthumously. The announcement of giving Shaurya Chakra to Martyr Major Vikas Bhambhu on the eve of Independence Day last year was made, which will now be given to the martyr’s family in a program organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
He was martyred in a crash landing in the border area
Major Vikas Bhambhu of 252 Army Aviation Squadron and his co-pilot Major Mustafa Bohra were on a helicopter reconnaissance mission in the border area in Arunachal Pradesh on 21 October 2022. At around 10:30 am, both of them were returning after completing the mission, during this time the helicopter caught fire about 20 km from the border.
He sacrificed his life to save people’s lives
Even after the helicopter caught fire, both the sons of Mother India displayed indomitable courage and took the helicopter away to save the lives of the common people, where the helicopter crash landed. Major Vikas Bhambhu and Major Mustafa Bohra were martyred in the accident. Both the brave soldiers sacrificed their lives for the country while following the highest tradition of the Indian Army.
Martyr Major topped in every exam
After receiving his primary education from village Rampura, martyr Major Vikas Bhambhu went to Sikar with his father where his father was working in the cooperative department. Vikas had given the NDA exam along with his 12th standard exam and after being selected, he joined the Indian Army as a lieutenant.
Be successful in every task and mission while in the army
Major Vikas successfully completed all the tasks and missions given to him during his time in the Indian Army. He also topped all the internal courses he did. After which, seeing his consistently excellent performance in the Army, it was decided to make him a pilot in the aviation branch. During the pilot training, four competitions were held and Major Vikas won all the four awards.
Vikas Bhambhu became the topper in the result that came after the martyrdom
Just a few days before his martyrdom, Major Vikas had given the exam for Staff of College. Around 2500 army officers had participated in the exam. The results were declared after the martyrdom of Major Vikas Bhambhu and the martyr Major had topped this exam as well. Seeing the result, the eyes of Vikas’s family as well as his colleagues were filled with tears.
