
Amravati, April 25: In a shocking incident from the Varud area of Amravati district, a minor girl was subjected to severe abuse by her mother and stepfather based on unfounded suspicions. The victim, approximately 16 years old, resided in Mirchi Plot, Varud.
Family members reportedly harbored doubts about the girl, frequently threatening her with death. Upon receiving information about the situation, the police and Child Welfare team acted swiftly, ensuring the girl’s safety by placing her in a Child Protection Home in Amravati.
On April 21, 2026, a case was registered against the mother and stepfather at Varud police station based on the victim’s statement. According to police reports, both accused brutally beat the minor with a belt under the pretext of suspicion. They also used an electronic trimmer to cut her hair, leaving the girl traumatized.
The Varud police have filed charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 245/26, 118(1), 115(2), 351(2), and 352, as well as under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The investigation has been assigned to Woman Sub-Inspector Pooja Mali. Police confirmed that both accused were arrested yesterday, and preventive measures have been implemented to avert any further incidents.
A police official stated that the safety of minor girls is of utmost priority, emphasizing that any form of violence or cruel behavior towards children, based on suspicion or trivial matters, will not be tolerated.
Currently, the girl is being cared for and receiving counseling at the Child Protection Home, while the police continue to conduct a thorough investigation. Any additional individuals found to be involved in this cruelty will face strict action.
