Jaipur : Pilot, who put his own party’s Ashok Gehlot government in trouble with his rebellious attitude and returned to the party on his own terms, is the son of late veteran Congress leader Rajesh Pilot. Sachin Pilot joined the Congress at the age of 24.
Politics was nothing new for Sachin due to the political environment he got at home since childhood. He was well aware of its ins and outs. Hence, he started playing a brilliant innings in politics in his early days. He became a minister in the central government after winning the MP election at a young age.
Pilot, who became an MP at a very young age, showed such a flair for politics that it was not known when he became an important leader for the Congress. This dynamic leader of Rahul Gandhi’s youth brigade soon dominated the politics of Rajasthan Congress.
In just a few years, Sachin Pilot became the second most important leader after Ashok Gehlot, who had been ruling the state Congress for decades, and the senior leaders before him just watched. But from here on, his distance from the most important link of Rajasthan Congress and veteran leader Ashok Gehlot kept on increasing due to the fight for supremacy in the party.
Considering Sachin’s political stature, the party handed over the command of the state unit to him at the age of 36. While being the PCC chief for more than six years, Pilot nurtured the party which was in the abyss with the help of his youth team and brought it back to the competition. During this time, the rift between Gehlot and Pilot also deepened.
In the year 2018, when Congress came to power, Sachin Pilot came into conflict with Ashok Gehlot over the tussle for the CM’s chair. This episode of the chair remained in the political headlines of the country for many days. Ultimately, Pilot had to be content with the post of Deputy CM. But this satisfaction turned into great dissatisfaction in a few days.
After a long political tussle, this bubble of discontent finally burst in July 2020 and Pilot revolted against the party and the organization. He along with his supporting MLAs first settled in Manesar in Haryana and later in a hotel in Delhi. This reduced the Ashok Gehlot government to a minority and created a stir in the Congress.
During this time, seeing Pilot’s rebellious attitude and his insistence on changing the CM, the party took strict action against him and removed him from the post of PCC Chief and Deputy CM. But even this did not make Pilot bow down and remained firm on his demand. Due to this, Pilot once again made headlines across the country.
After 32 days of political tussle, with the intervention of Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, senior leaders convinced Pilot and brought him back to the party. It is being told that in this political settlement, all the conditions except Pilot’s condition of changing the CM have been accepted. Now a three-member committee has been formed to settle the Gehlot-Pilot dispute.
