Padma Shri Award for Mohan Nagar for Environmental Conservation Efforts

Bhopal: Mohan Nagar from Madhya Pradesh has been selected for the Padma Shri award for his significant contributions to environmental and water conservation. The central government announced the Padma awards for 2026 on the eve of Republic Day, including the name of this social worker from Madhya Pradesh.

Expressing his happiness in an interview, Mohan Nagar said, “It feels very good that the work I have done in the field of environment is being recognised with this award. I sincerely thank the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I dedicate this honour to the activists and tribal communities of Betul.”

He added, “This recognition is not just a personal achievement. I dedicate it to the tribal communities of Betul and the thousands of volunteers involved in the Ganga Avatran campaign. This acknowledgement will help spread the message of environmental and water conservation as well as social service from Betul to the entire country and beyond.”

Sharing his background, Mohan Nagar said, “I come from a simple farmer’s family in a village. I studied in a village school and later went to Ujjain. Through Vidya Bharati in Betul, I worked to raise awareness about education and environmental issues.”

He praised the Modi government, stating, “People who work quietly for society without seeking publicity are like precious gems. The Modi government identifies such individuals and brings them to the forefront, inspiring others in society.”

Recalling his early inspiration, Mohan Nagar said, “My family also motivated me towards environmental protection. My grandfather used to go to the river and clean the waste. Living in a village, I understood social life and its challenges. Gradually, we turned those challenges into opportunities and continued our work.”

He further stated, “Every year, such announcements are made to honour people who never worked with the expectation of awards. It is commendable that Prime Minister Modi is bringing these unsung heroes to light. This motivates others as well.”

Mohan Nagar mentioned the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme by PM Modi, highlighting how it often features individuals quietly engaged in social work.

He concluded by saying, “I will now accelerate the work I am doing. This award has given me great enthusiasm. We will intensify environmental and water conservation efforts across the 55,000 villages of Madhya Pradesh.”
